I'm an ANTIQUES ROADSHOW addict. My husband tapes episodes so I can watch them while I'm exercising on my treadmill. I just saw an episode with a huge Native American burl bowl, a Persian rug someone picked up for $10, a Hawaiian flag heritage quilt. I'm sweaty and happy.

I confess:

I uke. I do. (I have two.)

The Ukulele (ook-oo-lay-lay to be correct) is a little happiness instrument, and can be heard plunking it's way into the heart of many an Oregonian. There is a groundswell, a passionate flood of interest in this little portable, playable, affordable instrument that makes us want to smile. They're the best little antidepressants in the world: there is no way that you can play or listen to a uke and be depressed - I've tried. Next time you listen to prime-time ads you'll hear it. Better yet, come to hear a group play. Oregon is a mecca for ukers, and we have our own festivals across the state. We're friendly folk, and will even let you play our ukes, or better yet - will have an extra you can play!

I am in love with museums... and school... both equally, how can I choose? Culture makes me Make Good (which is the slogan for the Architecture and Allied Arts at the University of Oregon)

I am a gerontology student and have learned to love hearing and recording personal histories and family connections. I also love to meet and interact with dementia-challenged elderly people and like to look at family photos and visit with the person who is still alive and inside and still loves beauty and art and music and connecting with others.

I love to go to movies or watch films by myself. It's a mental and emotional retreat for me. I'll even pick a theme and have my own mini-festival. Perfect in the rain!

My mother was an aspiring designer and instilled in me the importance of observation, an awareness of the sensory landscape that surrounds us. As a result, culture - the organized or randomly evolved terrain of the art and living process - makes me feel at home wherever I am.

I love to cook! To some it is stressful, to me it is a stress reliever. I love beading with my friends, which must be done while sharing a good bottle of wine (or a bad one because let's face it we are in a recession). I tend to see the world as photographic opportunities...driving out to St. Paul the other day as the sun came up, I saw photo after photo that could have been taken if only I had my camera...beautiful landscapes and old barns and tractors and the river and... sometimes I wish I could push pause while I run and get my camera.

Yesterday someone suggested I was a design freak. I took that as a compliment. It must be in my DNA since I'm the mom of a budding graphic designer.
